This is a breakout session of the Hospice & Palliative Care Music Therapy Institute. This course will examine the use and influence of traditional gospel and Motown music with patients and family members.  We will examine the importance of self-empowerment, and self-expression in end of life care.

Participants will:
~Learn the historical background of gospel and Motown music
~The Gospel Sounds, Composers and Singers
~The Motown Sound, Composers, Musicians and Singers

 Learn  to play and sing various arrangements of the more frequently requested  hymns and gospel music in end of life care:
~Chord progressions
~Call and response

Identify ways to utilize gospel music effectively, to include:
~Vocal and Instrumental
~Musical transitions
~Life review/Reminiscence
