SUMMARY:Child and Adolescent Grief & Loss Music Therapy Institute (including clinical rotation at Camp Kangaroo)
DESCRIPTION:Grieving children and teens are an often under-served population in our society today. While we have begun to realize that they need attention to work through their grief process\, little formalized counseling is made available in our communities nationwide. Music therapists have unique opportunities to make a difference in schools\, places of worship\, mental health agencies\, hospitals\, and hospices. This course provides an easily-replicated curriculum for grieving children and adolescents empowering music therapists to start grief support groups\, provide family-based and individual bereavement counseling\, and participate in grief camps. Using a variety of theories and methods\, these curricula will be demonstrated and then practiced in role-play settings. Our capstone experience is spending a day at Camp Kangaroo\, a music therapy-based grief camp\, observing and participating in music therapy sessions for bereaved children and adolescents. This hands-on\, dynamic course will provide music therapists the tools they need to serve this population or simply be aware of the needs within their communities. Participants will earn 30 CMTEs by completing this course. \nCourse Objectives include: \n\nUnderstand the developmental needs and abilities of grieving children and teens.\nRecognize the emotional\, physical\, social\, and spiritual impact of grief among children and teens.\nDevelop a multi-modal\, creative arts therapy approach to serve these needs within a psychotherapeutic framework.\nLearn music therapy-based curricula and practice music therapy interventions under clinical supervision.\nObserve clinical music therapy practice at a children’s grief camp.\nDevelop music therapy-based session plans to serve grieving children and teens.\n\n**Please note that this Institute will be held at the Seasons office in Dania Beach (1815 Griffin Road\, Ste 204\, Dania Beach\, FL 33004) for Day 1 and 2. Day 3 will be at Camp Shake A Leg (2620 South Bayshore Dr.\, Miami\, FL 33133)\n \nSchedule:\nDay 1– 9:00am–5:00pm @ Seasons Hospice office in Dania Beach\nDay 2– 9:00am–4:00pm @ Seasons Hospice office in Dania Beach\nDay 3– 9:00am–4:30pm @ Camp Shake A Leg in Miami \n  \n$495.00Read more
