Two Offerings for 2010! Basic & Advanced Counseling Skills Institute

This course provides music therapists with basic and advanced verbal counseling theories and techniques and affords participants opportunities to practice skills in a clinical setting. Participants earn 30 CMTEs.

Participants in this course will:

~Learn the fundamental theories guiding verbal counseling techniques

~Identify ways to utilize music therapy techniques to prompt, support, and validate verbal counseling processes

~Learn advanced counseling skills to support more complex client needs

~Practice counseling skills under supervision in role-play scenarios

Schedule:

Saturday: 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

   *includes four, 10-minute breaks

   Sunday: 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
   *includes four, 10-minute breaks and a working lunch

   Monday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
   *includes four, 10-minute breaks and a working lunch

Airport: The closest and most convenient airport to Holy Cross Hospital is Midway Airport (MDW), but trains run from O'Hare (ORD) to Midway regularly as well. The airport for Tallahassee is Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH), 3300 Capital Circle Southwest, Tallahassee, FL 32310.

Suggested Accommodations: In Chicago, the Midway Hotel Center is just 2 blocks from Midway Airport and 2 miles from Holy Cross Hospital. If a large group stays at one hotel, it may be possible to arrange a shuttle from the hotel center to the hospital, otherwise, a taxi cab is suggested for transport to/from the hospital and hotels.

In Tallahassee, there will is a discounted rate at Courtyard Mariott, but there are three other hotels within close proximity to Big Bend Hospice which have reasonable rates. Rates range from $72-$99/night, so please book in advance to secure the best rate.
