Hospice & Palliative Care Music Therapy Institute 
~June 12-15, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Baltimore, MD
The Hospice & Palliative Care Music Therapy Institute is a Specialty CMTE course that will enable participants to expand and integrate their knowledge of issues related to end of life care in clinical settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, and hospices. Participants are afforded the unique opportunity to learn the clinical needs of people with advanced illness and their families, develop innovative treatment plans, and practice music therapy skills in a clinical hospice setting. Funding opportunities and business aspects of hospice music therapy will also be explored. Carolyn Koebel, MM, MT-BC, will be a guest speaker, highlighting guitar skills at the beside. Participants may earn 50 Specialty CMTEs.

Grief & Loss Music Therapy Institute
~August 28-31, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Chicago, IL
The Grief & Loss Music Therapy Institute is a Specialty CMTE course that will enable music therapists to learn the clinical needs of the bereaved and develop session plans and interventions that are developmentally appropriate. Various types of therapeutic programming will be taught including closed- and open-ended groups as well as individual and family sessions. Participants may earn 50 Specialty CMTEs.

Basic & Advanced Counseling Skills for Music Therapists--Two Offerings in 2010!!                         ~July 24-26, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Chicago, IL                                                               ~September 25-27, 2010 at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, FL                                                      This course provides music therapists with basic and advanced verbal counseling techniques and affords participants opportunities to practice skills in a clinical setting. Music has the power to evoke powerful emotions and experiences, and this course equips music therapists with pratical skills in verbal processing such emotional content. Music therapists can use many powerful musical interventions for unlocking, releasing, and expressing emotional content. This course will teach therapists how to utilize these interventions in their clinical practice as it relates to basic and advanced counseling skills. Participants in this course may earn 30 CMTE credits.

Advanced Practice in Hospice Music Therapy Institute at Seasons Hospice, Chicago, IL   ~October 16-17, 2010                                                                                                                          This is an advanced practice course for the hospice music therapist seeking to deepen and broaden his or her thearpeutic and business skills.  Areas covered will incorporate clinical supervision, using the group to process difficult or challenging cases.  Business aspects will be reviewed, considering program expansion, funding opportunities, role-play meeting with CEOs, etc.  Advanced clinicals in specific areas such as pediatric care, family conflict, unresolved pain, and acute suicidality will be included.   For questions, please email Shelby Smith at schleb82@hotmail.com.
