Russell Hilliard, PhD, LCSW, LCAT,MT-BC is the National Director of Supportive
Care, Research, and Ethics of Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care based out of Chicago, IL and the Founder of
the Center for Music Therapy in End of Life Care. His research, advocacy, and consultation have resulted in the development
of first-time music therapy programs in hospices throughout the nation, thereby creating many new music therapy positions.
He is the author of the text, Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapy: A Guide to Program Development and Clinical Care,
and his research has been published in a wide variety of scholarly journals. He also wrote a chapter titled, Music and
Grief Work with Children and Adolescents, in a book titled Creative Interventions with Traumatized Children,
edited by Cathy A. Malchiodi. Dr. Hilliard has provided keynote addresses for healthcare conferences and is a frequent
presenter at professional conferences world wide.

Deanna Hanson-Abromeit is an Associate Professor of Music Therapy
at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She earned her Bachelor of Music and Masters of Arts
in Music Therapy from The University of Iowa and the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education with an emphasis on Music Therapy
from the University of Kansas. Dr. Hanson-Abromeit presents regularly at regional, national and international conferences.
She is the co-editor of two monographs on music therapy in the hospital setting, published by the American Music Therapy Association.
Dr. Hanson-Abromeit’s area of clinical and research focus is on preventive music-based interventions with at-risk infants
(premature and those living in poverty). She currently serves on the Chair of the Continuing Education Committee for CBMT
and sits on the AMTA Assembly of Delegates and the editorial board for Music Therapy Perspectives.

Dr. Dena Register is an
Associate Professor of music therapy at the University of Kansas. Prior to teaching at KU, Register worked as a private practice
music therapist in Tallahassee and Tampa, Florida providing services to early intervention programs, students with special
education needs, bereaved children and adolescentsand battered women and children. She also provided internship supervision
andcoordinated the music therapy program at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, FL. Dr.Register also acts
as the Regulatory Affairs Advisor for the Certification Board forMusic Therapists to help states across the country obtain
state recognition of musictherapy. She is an author and researcher whose works are published in Music Therapy
Perspectives, the Arts in Psychotherapy and the Journal of Music Therapy. She is a regular presenter at regional, national
and international conferences.

Taryn Thomas, MA, MT-BC
is a native of Mamaroneck, NY, who began playing gospel music on piano and organ by ear when she was a child.
Taryn continued to expose herself to a variety of music and learned the importance of music in the community as she
played in hospitals, correctional facilities, and children’s homes throughout Westchester County.
She attended National University in San Diego CA completing her BA in interdisciplinary studies. Taryn
went on to work in early childhood education for over 20 years as a teacher and administrator. She became interested in the discipline of music therapy when
she volunteered at a community music therapy program and discovered that this was the work that she wanted to do. Taryn
became a faculty member of the Music Therapy Institute at the Music Conservatory of Westchester after completing her MA in
music therapy from New York University. While completing her studies she worked as an intern at Memorial
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan where she also works as a music therapist.
