Professionally trained, board certified music therapists (MT-BC) use live music in their care for people living with advanced illnesses. Research provides support for music therapy to increase quality of life, alleviate spiritual suffering, provide pain management, and promote relaxation in end of life care. 

The Center for Music Therapy in End of Life Care provide training opportunities for professional and student music therapists, social workers, nurses, chaplains, among others
. Participants who are board-certified music therapists may earn the Hospice & Palliative Care Music Therapist certificate designation by completing required courses.
